Nothing in Common (Echad and Ahad)
Muslims say: "O People of the Book! come to common terms as between us and you: That we worship none but Allah....." (Quran 3:64)
The Quran claims that Jews, Christians and Muslims worship the same God.
This is a false statement. (Some differences are mentioned in the article 'Ask Muslims' in this site)
Let us consider the God of Abraham:
In Hebrew the word 'echad', 'yachid' and 'bad' is used to denote different meanings of one.
'Echad' is used as a unified one many times (Gen. 2:24; Deut. 6:4) similar to Greek word 'Hen'.
'Yachid' or 'bad' has one exclusive meaning: the numeric, solitary oneness (Jud. 11:34, Jer 6:26) Similar to Greek word 'monos'.
The old testament refers God of Abraham as echad. In Deuteronomy 6:4-5 "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God (Elohim), the LORD is One (ECHAD)!."
Other uses of echad are:
Genesis 2:24 Adam and Eve, two persons were said to be One- Echad.
Genesis 11:6 – Many people are said to be One- Echad.
Genesis 34:16- Two different groups becoming One- Echad.
Ezra 2:64 and 3:1, 42360 persons, an assembly, are said to be One- Echad.
1 Corinthians 8:4 – God is one – hen
Ephesians 4:6- God is one- hen (New Testament uses both 'hen' and 'monos' depending on situation of usage)
God of Abraham is refered to as a united entity not as a singular entity or one different from other similar ones.
Now let us consider the God of Muhammad:
Surah 112: 1- Say Allah is one.
The Arabic word for one is ahad. The word that is used is ahad and not al-ahad.
In Surah 2:96- one of them (idolaters) – ahad.
In Surah 2:136- do not distinguish between anyone of the prophets- ahad. (Surah 2:285, 3:84 etc are also the same).
In Surah 9:84- do not pray at the grave of anyone of the unbelievers- ahad.
In the Uthmanic Quran, Surah 33:40 – Muhammad is not the father of any one. (There is a totally opposite verse in the Ibn Masud Quran.)
Surah 43:17 when the news reaches one of them, ahad. (2:102, 3:73, 3:153, 4:152, 4:43, 5:6, 7:80, 9:6, etc).
If one studies Quran by using Quran alone, then ahad means Allah is one among the many similar entities.
Conclusion:
There is a major difference between the God of Abraham and God of Muhammad.
God of Abraham is a group (two or more) who are in all respects togather as one.{Jesus says that I and my Father are one}
God of Muhammad is one entity (set apart or differentiated from a group of similar entities) {Allah is one}
Hence the common terms is certainly not of worshiping the same God as Quran claims.
