The purpose of this article is to cross check the claims of many muslim preachers against their own scriptures. I have used the three books claimed most authentic by the muslim society. There were books written by muslims. The quotes are primarily from the Quran, Hadiths by Sahih Bukari and Sahih Muslim.
There are three Claims:
Claim 1: Quran has not been changed
Claim 2: Quran was from God
Claim 3: Muhammad is a prophet of God of Abraham
We shall check and see what the Muslim scriptures say about these claims. I will give only four witnesses against each claim. There are more hadiths similar to the ones I have given but I am not including them for the sake of brevity.
Claim 1: Quran has not been changed
Witness 1: Umar
Narrated Ibn abbas: umar said, "Our best Qur'an reciter is Ubai and our best judge is 'Ali; and in spite of this, we leave some of the statements of Ubai because Ubai says, 'I do not leave anything that I have heard from Allah's Apostle while Allah: "Whatever verse (Revelations) do We abrogate or cause to be forgotten but We bring a better one or similar to it." (2.106) (Book #60, Hadith #8)
Here we see that Umar confesses that he did not include some verses in the Quran which he felt were abrogated. Whereas the present Quran contains verses which are abrogated possibly included by Uthman. (Please read below for abrogated verses.) Remember that in Bukari Book 57 Hadith 103, we see four assigned by Muhammad to keep and transmit the Quran but neither of the two survivors were allowed to take part in the making of the Quran. One of them had to flee with his copy when Uthman wanted to destroy it.
Witness 2: Ubayy ibn Ka'b
Mohammad himself appointed a four people as the master reciters of Quran; Ubayy ibn Ka'b and Ibn Mas'ud were two of them. When Uthman compiled those Quran, Ubayy ibn Ka'b and IbnMas'ud were not among one of them. The other two had died in wars. (Bukari Book 57 Hadith 103)
In Ubayy Bin Kaab’ Quran, the words He is a father of them is there. In Uthman’s Quran, these words are not there. If there were no changes made to Quran, why the difference? (Mentioned in A.Y. Ali’s footnote 3674 of Surah 33)
Also in the Uthmanic Quran, Surah 33:40 – Muhammad is not the father of anyone. So there are at-least two different qurans according Mr. Yusuf Ali, the translator of Uthmanic quran. Some others claim even more versions. Please refer to www.fatherzakaria.net/
Witness 3: Abu Ad-Darda
Bukhari Volume 6, Book 60, Number 468
The companions of 'Abdullah (bin Mas'ud) came to Abu Darda', (and before they arrived at his home), he looked for them and found them. Then he asked them,: 'Who among you can recite (Qur'an) as 'Abdullah recites it?" They replied, "All of us." He asked, "Who among you knows it by heart?" They pointed at 'Alqama. Then he asked Alqama. "How did you hear 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud reciting Surat Al-Lail (The Night)?" Alqama recited:
'By the male and the female.' Abu Ad-Darda said, "I testify that I heard me Prophet reciting it likewise, but these people want me to recite it:--
'And by Him Who created male and female.' but by Allah, I will not follow them."
Muhammad asked his followers to learn Quran from four people. Abdullah (bin Mas'ud) was one of the four people, (Bukari Book 57 Hadith 103) but the way he knew it is different from the way it is in the present Quran. (Also similar hadith in Muslim Book004 Hadith 1801)
Witness 4: Ayesha
Sahih Muslim Book 8 No. 3421
'A'isha (Allah be pleased with, her) reported that it had been revealed in the Holy Qur'an that ten clear sucklings make the marriage unlawful, then it was abrogated (and substituted) by five sucklings and Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) died and it was before that time (found) in the Holy Qur'an (and recited by the Muslims).
Now this verse is not there. Ayesha the wife of Muhammad said that this verse was found in the Quran during the time of Muhammad but in Uthman’s Quran it is not there. (Sucklings mean that if a woman suckles a man then he is her son so can meet her freely and alone but cannot marry.)
Claim 2: Quran was from God
Witness 1: Mathematical Logic Error
As per Quran 4: 11, 12 and 176, if a man dies leaving three daughters and parents. He has to give 2/3 to daughters, 1/3 to parents. That will be 100 % but then wife also has to get 1/8.
This error in Allah’s words has been rectified by men by an approximation method called ‘Awl’. If Allah wanted men to approximate then he should have used ‘give approximately’ or ‘give nearly’ or ‘give as close as possible to’. Till now not even a single translation tells that we have to give approximately or give as close as possible to the divisions given in the book, all say ‘will have’. The truth is that they will not always have as said in the Quran. God is one person we should expect to be perfect.
Witness 2: Abrogation
Quran 85: 21, 22 (Surat Al-Burooj 21, 22):
This is a Glorious Quran, in Lauh Mahfûz (Preserved Tablet)
Bukhari, Book 60, Number 285
Narrated Al-Qasim bin Abi Bazza: That he asked Said bin Jubair, "Is there any repentance of the one who has murdered a believer intentionally?" Then I recited to him:-- "Nor kill such life as Allah has forbidden except for a just cause." Said said, "I recited this very Verse before Ibn 'Abbas as you have recited it before me. Ibn 'Abbas said, 'This Verse was revealed in Mecca and it has been abrogated by a Verse in Surat-An-Nisa which was later revealed in Medina."
Sahih Muslim 8.3421
It had been revealed in the Qur'an that ten clear sucklings make the marriage unlawful, then it was abrogated (and substituted) by five sucklings and Allah's Apostle (peace_be_upon_him) died and it was before that time (found) in the Qur'an (and recited by the Muslims). (Sahih Muslim 8.3421)
The above surah tells that the Quran is written in a preserved slate. Inspite of this we see verses revealed and then abrogated and newer ones revealed. If the Quran, by the time this verse was revealed, was already in a preserved form them why were there instances of abrogation?
Verses were revealed and then corrected, to give muslims better and more clear verses.
It is possible only if Allah did not know what was the better and more clear one in the first time.
Witness 3: Contradiction
Quran 58:2: If any men among you divorce their wives by Zihar (calling them mothers) they cannot be their mothers: none can be their mothers except those who gave them birth.
Quran 33:6: The Prophet is closer to the Believers than their own selves, and his wives are their mothers.
The word none is inclusive only exception are those who gave them birth. Here Muhammad’s wives who have not given them birth are said to be their mothers.
Quran states that there should be no compulsion in religion. (Quran 2:256)
Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks. And Allah heareth and knoweth all things.
But it also calls for killing of a person who has left Islam. (Quran 4:89)
They but wish that ye should reject Faith, as they do, and thus be on the same footing (as they): But take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of Allah (From what is forbidden). But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; and (in any case) take no friends or helpers from their ranks
Thus they contradict themselves.
Witness 4: False Prophecy
Quran 59:14: "They [the Jewish people] will not fight you (even) together, except in fortified townships, or from behind walls. Strong is their fighting (spirit) amongst themselves: thou wouldst think they were united, but their hearts are divided: that is because they are a people devoid of wisdom."
This is a false prophecy since jews have fought against the muslims together in the middle east in the 1948-1949 war Jews fought together against 6 countries. (Most wars are fought by some men and the rest support through finance.) This entire chapter does not say that it is given to Muhammad. It explicitly gives verses to muslims regarding Muhammad. If, this chapter was only for muslims of that time, then the entire Quran would be for the people of that time only.
Witness 5: False Prophecy
Sahih Bukhari, Volume 6, Book 60, Number 176:
Narrated Ibn Abbas: When the Verse: – ‘If there ar e twenty steadfast amongst you (Muslims), they will overcome two-hundred (non- Muslims).’ was revealed, it became hard on the Muslims when it became compulsory that one Muslim ought not to flee (in war) before ten (non-Muslims). So (Allah) lightened the order by revealing:
‘(But) now Allah has lightened your (task) for He knows that there is weakness in you. So if there are of you one-hundred steadfast, they will overcome two-hundred (non-Muslims).’ (Surah 8:66) So when Allah reduced the number of enemies which Muslims should withstand, their patience and perseverance against the enemy decreased as much as their task was lightened for them.
Here we see that Allah changed the odds from 1:10 to 1:2 when people complained but the fact remains that in multiple wars that even at better odds muslims lost.
Deutronomy 18:22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that [is] the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, [but] the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.
Claim 3: Muhammad is a prophet of God of Abraham
Moses gave two requirements for a person to be a prophet of YHWH
- He should not give even one false prophecy. (Deuteronomy 22:18)
- He should not tell anything that leads to breaking of the Law given by Moses. (Isaiah 8:20)
Witness 1: False Prophecy in Hadith
Bukari Book 37, Number 4281:
Narrated Mu'adh ibn Jabal: The Prophet [peace_be_upon_him] said, "The flourishing state of Jerusalem will be when Yathrib [Medina] is in ruins, the ruined state of Yathrib will be when the great war comes, the outbreak of the great war will be at the conquest of Constantinople and the conquest of Constantinople when the Dajjal [Antichrist] comes forth." He [the Prophet] struck his thigh or his shoulder with his hand and said, "This is as true as you are here or as you are sitting.
Constantinople was taken over by the Muslims in May of AD 1453. At that time Yathrib did not have a great war and was not in ruins. If he was referring to a future conquest then he should have told ‘at the reconquest’.
Sunan AbuDawood 36:4266
Narrated Jabir ibn Samurah: The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: The religion will continue to be established till there are twelve caliphs over you, and the whole community will agree on each of them. I then heard from the Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) some remarks which I could not understand. I asked my father: What is he saying: He said: all of them will belong to Quraysh.
This has not happened. It is another false prophecy. Muslims were not only disagreeing themselves over the Caliphs (Kings) they even murdered the first four of them.
Withness 2: Anti-Law in Quran
Deuteronomy 24:1-4: “If a man marries a woman who becomes displeasing to him because he finds something indecent about her, and he writes her a certificate of divorce, gives it to her and sends her from his house, and if after she leaves his house she becomes the wife of another man, and her second husband dislikes her and writes her a certificate of divorce, gives it to her and sends her from his house, or if he dies, then her first husband, who divorced her, is not allowed to marry her again after she has been defiled. That would be detestable in the eyes of the LORD. Do not bring sin upon the land the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance.”
Quran 2:229-230: “A divorce is only permissible twice: after that, the parties should either hold together on equitable terms, or separate with kindness. It is not lawful for you, (men), to take back any of your gifts (from your wives), except when both parties fear that they would be unable to keep the limits ordained by Allah. If ye (judges) do indeed fear that they would be unable to keep the limits ordained by Allah, there is no blame on either of them if she give something for her freedom. These are the limits ordained by Allah. So do not transgress them if any do transgress the limits ordained by Allah, such persons wrong (themselves as well as others). So if a husband divorces his wife (irrevocably), he cannot, after that, remarry her until after she has married another husband and he has divorced her. In that case there is no blame on either of them if they re-unite, provided they feel that they can keep the limits ordained by Allah. Such are the limits ordained by Allah, which He makes plain to those who understand.”
Witness 3: False Prophecy in Quran
Quran 59:14 They [the Jewish people] will not fight you (even) together, except in fortified townships, or from behind walls. Strong is their fighting(spirit) amongst themselves: thou wouldst think they were united, but their hearts are divided: that is because they are a people devoid of wisdom.
Jews have fought together out of cities in the open.
Witness 4: Anti-Law in Hadith
Bukari Book 49, Number 857: Narrated Um Kulthum bint Uqba: That she heard Allah's Apostle saying, "He who makes peace between the people by inventing good information or saying good things, is not a liar."
Bukari Book 23, Number 329: Narrated Abu Dhar: Allah's Apostle said, "Someone came to me from my Lord and gave me the news (or good tidings) that if any of my followers dies worshipping none (in any way) along with Allah, he will enter Paradise." I asked, "Even if he committed illegal sexual intercourse (adultery) and theft?" He replied, "Even if he committed illegal sexual intercourse (adultery) and theft."
Bukari Book 52, Number 860: Narrated Abu Huraira and Zaid bin Khalid Al-Juhani: A bedouin came and said, "O Allah's Apostle! Judge between us according to Allah's Laws." His opponent got up and said, "He is right. Judge between us according to Allah's Laws." The bedouin said, "My son was a laborer working for this man, and he committed illegal sexual intercourse with his wife. The people told me that my son should be stoned to death; so, in lieu of that, I paid a ransom of one hundred sheep and a slave girl to save my son. Then I asked the learned scholars who said, "Your son has to be lashed one-hundred lashes and has to be exiled for one year." The Prophet said, "No doubt I will judge between you according to Allah's Laws. The slave-girl and the sheep are to go back to you, and your son will get a hundred lashes and one year exile." He then addressed somebody, "O Unais! go to the wife of this (man) and stone her to death" So, Unais went and stoned her to death.
Leviticus 20:10 And the man that committeth adultery with [another] man's wife, [even he] that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.
Leviticus 19:11 Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.
Here they allow the male offender to go free whereas the female offender is stoned to death.
1 Corinthians 6:9 states that “…neither fornicators …nor adulterers… shall inherit the kingdom of God.” In the books of Moses death is prescribed to both male and female but in this hadith Muhammad gave 100 lashes and 1 year exile to man and death to woman. In quran it says 100 lashes to both. In old testament both had to be killed.
Witness for non-christians and non-jews and non-muslims
Miracles happen in many religions and can be performed by devils also. Advanced scientific knowledge is in the hands of devil also. We know this because Bible says that satan is full of wisdom. (Ezekiel 28:12 – the word actually uses King of Tyre referring to the evil spirit which used to rule Tyre and not to the human king since the very next verse tells about him being in Eden) Miracles and advanced scientific knowledge alone cannot be used to say that a person is from God.
Witness 1: Will of God was different
“Umm Kulthum Uqba b. Mu’ayt migrated to the apostle during this period. Her two brothers ‘Umara and Walid sons of ‘Uqba came and asked the apostle to return her to them in accordance with the agreement between him and Quraysh at Hudaybiyya, but he would not. God forbade it.” (Sirat Rasulullah, p. 509)
He did not keep his oath. His decision was different from the decision made by Allah. This is one of the two hadiths that I am quoting out of Bukari or Muslim.
Witness 2: Murder
(Muslim Book #019, Hadith #4436)
‘…Who will kill Ka'b b. Ashraf? He has maligned Allah, the Exalted, and His Messenger. Muhammad b. Maslamasaid: Messenger of Allah, do you wish that I should kill him? He said: Yes…..’
Sunaan Abu Dawud: Book 14, Number 2678: Narrated Sa’id ibn Yarbu’ al-Makhzumi: The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: on the day of the conquest of Mecca: There are four persons whom I shall not give protection in the sacred and non-sacred territory. He then named them. There were two singing girls of al-Maqis; one of them was killed and the other escaped and embraced Islam.
Ordered killing of people who spoke and sang against him. His agents went to homes at night and killed suckling mothers, aged people, etc. One of the reasons being that they wrote poems against Muhammad.
Biographies of Muhammad written by early muslim authors like Ibn Ishaq and Tabari record many instances of Muhammad killing many people caught after war (around 600 – 800 at one go) Also ordering small groups to go into communities not at war and killing specific people like poets who were vocal against him. Muslims now-a-days say that these books are not true but I read that Ibn Ishaq was actually selected and sent by a Caliph.
Witness 3: War (Peace at the point of a sword)
Quran 9:5 "And when the sacred months are passed, kill those who join other gods with God wherever ye shall find them; and seize them, besiege them, and lay wait for them with every kind of ambush: but if they shall convert, and observe prayer, and pay the obligatory alms, then let them go their way, for God is gracious, merciful.
Bukari book 52 Hadith 73
Narrated 'Abdullah bin Abi Aufa: Allah's Apostle said, "Know that Paradise is under the shades of swords."
Commanded jihadis to go to a country and ask them to be muslims, if they refused then ask them to pay them money, if they refuse then attack them and kill them. They have to go and fight even if the others have not attacked. If they win they can share the booty, enslave men, women and children.
Witness 4: Unable to distinguish source of revelation
Quran 22:52 Never did We send a Messenger or a Prophet before you but when he did recite the revelation or narrated or spoke, satan threw (some falsehood) in it. But Allah abolishes that which satan throws in. Then Allah establishes His Revelations. And Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise:
This means that allah abrogates those verses which were spoken by Muhammad but given by satan. If this is true then it clearly means that Muhammad could not know which were from god and which verses from satan. Then how would he know if the new verses which abrogated the old were from god or satan. Since the verses used to abrogate old verses also came from Muhammad.
Best way to oppose an idea is another idea. Best way to oppose religion is another religion. Best way to prevent a person from going the right way is to show a wrong way. Devil is showing wrong way to those who want to go the right way. Luckily we have had warnings before.
“Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour… Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist-he denies the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.” 1 John 2:18, 22-23
