JACOB'S REDEEMER

A Lamb for the Father's Blessings

Jacob missed his blessings by a matter of minutes. Great and mighty blessing given by God Himself to his father and grand father slipped from his hands. He struggled with his brother and tenaciously clung on even in defeat. Wrong choices and bad luck combined with some effort from his brother Esau caused Jacob to become the younger brother, while Esau took on the title of elder brother.

This would have remained the case but Jacob desired the good and the blessings of the first born. He relied on a special lamb for obtaining the firstborn's blessings. He partook in spilling the blood and killing two goats, then cooked it, ate of it to see if it was good and then put on the skin when came to his father’s presence with the flesh. Jacob did not kill and prepare it himself but he just received it from his mother. This animal though dead caused him to obtain the blessings of God and to cover his sins, lies, deception and stand before his father.

This story is a preview of what Jesus has done for us and what we can do by accepting the Lamb of God. We who were not his children can now get the blessings of His firstborn, the blessings of our Father in Heaven. We did not qualify earlier and were outside God’s covenant but now we can obtain the same blessings through the Lamb that was slain for us. The blood of Jesus was spilt for us and he died. We partook of his flesh and He is our offering to God and when we meet God we put Jesus in front of us. We also need to wear or put on Christ and stand before Him to seek His blessings.

In this manner God will see us as if He is seeing His beloved son Jesus Christ, His firstborn. He will bless us with all blessings just as Isaac had blessed Jacob.
