LEAH'S LOVE
Leah's Love
Laban had two daughters, Leah and Rachel. As it so happens the younger was more beautiful than the elder. Their life went about as any other family in the region. Like all families it had all the ingredients that made it special, some love, a little anger, a bit of jealousy, a pinch of possesiveness, a cup of bonding, little fights, few drops of tears and above all a lot of togatherness. They were a family in its full meaning.
Everything went as usual till Jacob came into their lives. Jacob was a strong man who knew his work, he knew to care, protect and prosper his flock of sheep and could surely take care of a family, moreover he was favoured by God. Leah the elder one fell in love with Jacob. She loved him sincerely and in the depth that only young love can love. She ddreamt of holding his hand and spending her life beside his through thick and thin. There was only one problem, hHandsome Jacob fell in love with the beautiful Rachel. Jacob's love for Rachel was true and strong. He desired her, craved for her and dreamt of her.
Jacob was choose to be a slave for seven years to have Rachel. Laban was his master for these many years. Laban noticed how much Leah loved Jacob and pined for him. The father in him could not bear to see Leah's despair and decided to deceive Jacob and marry off Leah to him. Leah consented to this deception. Jacob realised too late that he he did not have the love of his life. He did not divorce Leah but agreed to slave for another seven years in return for his beloved Rachel. In all he slaved for fourteen years for his heart's wife but atlast he had her and they were one, husband and wife.
Jacob loved Rachel and wanted to see her happy even if he suffered but at the same time he hated Leah. Poor Leah had Jacob yet she did not have him, she had a sister yet she did not have her, she had a father but yet she was no more his daughter. Her only solace was her children and all through her life she yearned for some loving words from Jacob. She yearned for some love from him. Some true communion and not empty words. Years passed. The Lord blessed Jacob. Leah and Rachel had children. They grew up to be strong men. They had much wealth and were blessed.
Yet Leah's life was not complete. She did not have the one thing that mattered most to her, her husband's love. What could she do? She desired him so much that she choose to marry him even if she deceived him. She choose to stick with him even though he hated her because she loved him truly. But why did her life have to be this way? Jacob could only love Rachel so great was his love for her. Leah could only love Jacob, so great was her love for him.
Yet inspite of her deception the Lord loved her. Though Jacob loved Rachel's children more than her children and blessed Rachel's children more than her's. Yet the Lord choose Levi to be priests and Judah to be kings, both of them were Leah's children. God loved Ephraim (Rachel's) and calls him his beloved, He calls David (Leah's) a man after His own heart. He choose the tribe of Judah (Leah's) to be born into as Jesus. God Almighty loved all, Jacob, Leah and Rachel.
In life Leah may have been hated and Rachel was close to him but in death, Jacob was buried beside Leah and they are togather now. A lifetime of waiting yielded fruit and it was the grave that brought them togather. God is a mighty one, who can fathom Him.
